February 23 — Good bugs vs bad: using biological controls in SWD management A free webinar 12-1pm EST (9-10am PST)given by a national team presenting the latest information on biological control of Spotted Wing Drosophila. This webinar will include an overview of the project, an update on the native biocontrol agents that have been found in surveys at farms from Oregon to Maine, and the latest information on their search for parasitic wasps from Asia. February 27 — Management of spotted wing drosophila using organically approved strategies: An update A free webinar 12-1pm EST (9-10am PST).In 2015, a multi-regional project was funded by USDA-NIFA through Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) to develop, evaluate and implement systems-based organic management programs for SWD. This webinar will provide a comprehensive update on organic management of spotted wing drosophila. It will cover findings of the research conducted during the first and second year of this project on organically approved strategies including behavioral, cultural, and chemical strategies to manage SWD. February 27— Blueberry Mechanical Harvesting and Technology Symposium Salt Lake City, UT. This is a new event to the blueberry industry. We are gathering to talk specifically about mechanical harvesting and sorting of fresh blueberries today and tomorrow. We will spend part of the day discussing a number of high tech solutions that some other industries are looking at to solve some of their labor issues, as well as how some industries are funding technology. While there is no charge for the symposium, you will need to register to attend and there will be a buffet lunch for a fee. This event is held in conjunction with the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council and North American Blueberry Council Spring Meeting. Contact Mary Nezbeth with questions.

March 20 -22 — WSU Postharvest Fruit School 2018 Workshop locations in Wenatchee, Prosser, and Lynden. The first day will focus on the principles of postharvest science, engineering, and management. The second day will address crop-specific problems with sessions for apples or berries (morning), and cherries or pears (afternoon). The berry session will be live-streamed to Lynden, WA.
